two day later sore

they say 48 hours after the exertion is when you really feel it - today was a slog - my brain felt funny too - like i was running in a soup - i wonder if i looked as weird as i felt - just kept going though and by the end i was feeling semi-normal
nice to feel the body working

ho hum

nothing remarkable - just got up bfore my day, did my run, a litle stiff from longer hiller weekend runs but by the end i was feeling well stretched and awake - so i hope to add longer explore type runs to every weekend gradually extending the distance and soon add midweek runs of higher intensity
and once that casually feels good - mid february - i will sit down and plot out distance goals - amybe think about races - still havent done this year's resolutions yet

dartmouth waterfront

ive long wanted to explore the waterfront from the ferry terminal towards the bridge - not an incredible exotic place but it was a blank space on my halifax map until today

ran through the cemetary and the park to the waterfront then along the train tracks and i found this crazy little grassy wharf/pier with a little trail running out the the end

probably everyone knows it is there but i never did - what a great picnic spot right in the downtown - although i think point pleasant is better - from there i kept going right under the bridge

and there are a crazy pile of things there to photograph- a ship wreck right under the bridge, the whole wasterfront with shipping traffic coming and going and... and four submarines - plus an empty cut up hulkk of s hip - rusted and jagged - i didnt get any good photos this trip but ill be back -

good run iwas tired and well stretched by the time i got back to the top of the park and walked from the cemetary - not as tired or outof breath as i was last night - maybe because my body just needed a little wakening up - feeling good lewis

ran just before leaving on saturday and after dropping off jb and getting back to dartmouth sunday

the d'mth might have been longer than normal - definitely harder - ran straight down pine and around waterfront and up wyse (?) - huge hjill and then up bottom of thistle (?) - legs feeling dead and wobbly by end of that - it is time to start having one long one a week anyway - here we go - down to 195 from even 200 before NY's

26 down

got run over with at a much more civilized 7 pm tonight - so cold - damp bitter wind - cold
made me run faster than normal - been reading about ultramarathoners and they run every day- with occassional longg runs - so i feel less silly about what im doing -very confident it will work if i can keep going - this weekend will be a bit of a test in that it will be my first time on the road this year - i have been in digy for 26 straight days - hmmm - excluding a day trip to new minas - hmmm
need to get life back on balance so i can get workingon the upper body too - going to be harder
covering all the sports is inspiring - maybe jonathan wants to be a sports reporter....

three weeks down- 49 to go

my last update was wednesday but i did run every day - a couple days the back was bad but the last couple have been great - i really enjoy the running - it is one of the happiest bits of my day - dont interrupt im going running - sorry cant, im going running - gotta run - bye - love it

back is niggling but seems on the mend - spent a couple days outof doors this weekend - saturday exploring fundy shore and sunday playing on the Nec with Chris

not sleeping :(

christmas carol weather

the weather outside is frightful baby
but within every challenge lies da good stuph
my back was sore again this AM - i had laid off the pills yesterday - so i had to stretch for 10 minutes - hip extensions, cobra, and lie on my back hamstring stretch - before i could think about running - didnt feel too bad - but it was that kind of windy cold that doesnt let u breathe - i was gasping and grunting so much i kinda forgot about my back - cold damn cold

so i like that it wasnt easy to get out there and run - stiff sore and worst weather - but still i went

and once we get february out of the way, it should all get easier, no?

the math has gotten harder LOL
sunday's run was late night - like after 10 pm - not happy about running that late - today's was early am - bacl still a little stiff but im hoping it will pass - stretching like crazy and trying to take it easy - back, joints, muscles, feet, lungs, so many little things to keep in order to keep this thing going - arrrggghhhh
the runnign itself i love - reading billy blanks today - his taebo book - very inspirational - he talks about doing an exercise that u enjoy - fitness cant mean sacrifices or it wont last - i love running - i love all that sweating, running in the rain, late at night, early in the morning, going places crap i tell you - i love it
but i need to think long and hard about the upper body part which i cant seem to get n track with - need a rowboat so i can be going places - and there the fire hall - i guess ive joined which will mean free accesss to the work out gear .... ??

made a conscious effort to stay slow on downhill run - took it home slow - back sore - stretche dit - cobra
really sore when i got to work - going to be along day :(

12 days

am capable of occassionally pushing the pace - left hamstring tight
trying to be patient - one slightly longer run next week ? - then just add an extra day of longer as we go along - then eventually start adding in real training days - i feel in some regards my lungs and muscles and metabloism is used to this daily go now - but my tendons etc arent - gotta keep taking it as easy as i can

not doing enough towards upper body - 2 morro another bg upper body go

11th

today wasnt wonderful but it wasnt bad - ill be okay - starting off every day feel ssluggish - dont even notice the hills now - might start going up one more street - if i still feel good next weekend - back better

it seems like forever ive been running - it has been a month + since i got consistent but only ten days since i began the run a day streak - the last two days especially i have felt wonderful running - couldnt slow myself down - going to resist lengthening just yet - want to make sure i can handle the continued strain - so far feel good - sore back today though??

and worked out upper body today - that is coming too - im on track

need more sleep and food LOL
working on it

a week

one week done, 51 to go - friday was an evening run much like any other - saturday was a hike/trail run - for full story, check out my latest blog addiction - 2007 photo diary
sunday i was also out for a hike but no running - so i did an evening run in digby - left leg tight - calf and knee feeling strained - need to be stretching more - a given - and sleeping

fell off the upper body routine - damn - and not eating or sleeping like i want - damn
and for a moment today i almost blew off tonight's run - scary - i mean it scared me when i realized i had just thought about not running - so i immediately laced up my sneakers - slow easy run - feeling the week and the weekend of adventure - plus standing around for two hockey games - i will sleep well - if i ever have time LOL

birthday run

nothing special really - i love all the runs - i dont know what i think about but i have a good time out there

361 to go - feeling like i will stand the strain - would normally rest to get rid of this cold - it is threatening to descend into my lungs - this cant go off the rails so early

and yes im starting on the upper body for that hand walking thing - it is coming - yes

363 to go

well it has begun - it is going to be a long year
skied all weekend at wentworth - legs aching a bit but atually ok now
the first run of 2007 almost didn't happen
because of a snow/ freezing rain storm, it took a little longer to get home then i counted on
so i pulled over in bridgetown, drove 1km from the highway (turned out to be a parking lot right there) ran to the highway and back - raining, 11:30 p.m. in a strange town, sidewalk flooded

up the next day and out the door for run number two - one day at a time - havent done today's yet but there is still time :P
